2011 NerdCon Panel Descriptions

11am - 12pm  Onigiri Demonstration
The first 25 people in the door will learn how to make their very own onigiri (Japanese rice ball).  Enough supplies will be provided so that each person can make one rice ball!  Presented by Jessi Hustace.

12pm - 1pm  Appalachian State University Jedi Order
The student Jedi Order organization at Appalachian will do a presentation about their beliefs and practices as well as demonstrate the art of light saber battles.

1pm - 2pm  Book Swap
The official Nerd Network book swap was scheduled for February, but was canceled due to blizzard conditions.  Now, the Nerd Network will host the swap during NerdCon.  If you would like to participate, bring a book to swap to the Rhododendron room by 12:45 pm and exchange it for a ticket.  You can present your ticket in exchange for a book of your choice during the hour of the book swap.

2pm - 3pm  Sequential Art
Vikki Grube, a professor here at appalachian, will be giving a lecture about her Summer class, Drawing the Graphic Novel. Participants will gain valuable information about creating a graphic novel as well as learn about one of the interesting courses offered here at Appalachian.

3pm - 4pm  World Building
Judith Geary, author of The Getorix Series and international level evaluator for Future Problem Solving International, will be giving a lecture on world building in fiction. Participants will learn how to sucessfully build a believeable world and how to incorporate fact into their writing.
